In summer, northern Australia’s weather is typical of the tropics- hot and wet. Many Northern Territory lodges and stations are closed at this time of year due to the predisposition for cyclones in this region.

Autumn in Australia is March to May with temperatures in the South starting their slide into winter. Even so, in most of Australia the average temperature would still be in the 20°-30°C (68°-86°F) range, and days are still warm and sunny.

June to August is ‘winter’ in parts of Australia. The tropical states of Queensland and the Northern Territory have highly predictable weather. In ‘winter’, typical daily maximums are from 20 to 24 degrees Celsius (68 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit) and rain is rare. The beaches and tropical islands of Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef are perhaps at their most pleasant at this time of year.
