Itinerary Description

Days 1 – 3
Alice Springs
Alice Springs is known as the birthplace of the contemporary Aboriginal art movement and it is here that you will experience the art, culture and food of the Aboriginal people. The stories of Australian history and heritage overflow in Alice Springs, with a rich cast of characters from flying doctors to outback explorers.

During your 3 days in Alice Springs, a selection of tours and activities have been included to ensure you gain an insight to this culture-rich part of Australia:

  • Visit a variety of locations, from contemporary galleries to desert weavers and much more all hosted by your local Aboriginal guide.
  • Experience a “bush tucker” dinner with an Aboriginal chef who will take you on a short walk with a bush food demonstration, including sampling, followed by a relaxed chat about Aboriginal culture and life in the desert over a delicious bush BBQ.
  • Explore the Todd Street Mall in the centre of town which is alive with culture and offers an array of water colours of desert landscapes and dot paintings of the seasons.

Days 4 – 5
Red Centre
Home to one of Australia’s greatest icons – Ayers Rock and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park which is inscribed on the World Heritage List for both its natural and cultural values, the Red Centre is an impressive region for many reasons and you will find out why on your further touring experiences.

Your touring experience continues when you reach the Red Centre, included in your 2 days here is:

    Longitude 131

  • Take a scenic flight deep into Aboriginal Lands for an Indigenous cultural experience. Cave Hill is a magnificent location offering a 360-degree view of surrounding countryside and possibly one of the most significant rock art sites in central Australia. Then travel to another site to meet and see traditional artists at work.
  • A journey to the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park to enjoy a spectacular sunrise. Revel in the early morning serenity of a truly spiritual place as the sunrise colours change on Kata Tjuta (36 domes that comprise this spiritual place) while watching the sun’s morning glow as the desert comes alive.
  • Visit Uluru to experience a memorable sunset over this iconic monument, Uluru. Meander around the rock and visit sacred waterholes and ceremonial rock art sites where Aboriginal families once came to teach their children the Tjukurpa (Dreaming) stories.

Whilst in the Red Centre, 2 nights’ accommodation has been included at Longitude 131
Situated on a secluded sand dune close to the border of the dual World Heritage listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Longitude 131° is arguably one of the best luxury wilderness camps in the world.

Although we can offer this itinerary all year round, we recommend travel from April to November to avoid the hottest months where daytime temperatures may exceed 40C.
