Kangaroo Beach Lodge

Kangaroo Beach Lodge

Three exclusive hideaways, one secret cove…
Few have set foot on Kangaroo Beach, a cusp of white sand flanked by soaring headlands in the remote north-west corner of Kangaroo Island. Surrounded by 8000 acres of family-owned land, this beautiful cove has been a secret for decades. It remains pristine, peaceful and private.

Kangaroo Beach Lodges are three elevated retreats designed to enjoy privileged views – the sight of summer sunshine playing on turquoise shallows, winter seas hammering ancient rocks, White-bellied Sea Eagles riding thermals, dolphins surfing swells, and a beach without footprints.

Guests are welcome to make themselves completely at home in Lodges that offer true ‘barefoot luxury’. They’re also invited to explore the entire property as they wish. Lodges can be self-catered, pre-provisioned or fully catered to by a professional chef.

Location: Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is famous for its abundant wildlife species and natural beauty. Covering almost 4500 sq km (a third of which is conservation land), the island is relatively free of feral species allowing animal and bird populations to thrive.
See koalas in millennia-old native forests, walk among sea lions on pristine white-sand beaches, dive historic wrecks to see the famous Leafy Sea Dragon, watch Ospreys wheeling over rocky headlands…
Rich farmland and fertile seas have supported spirited island communities that are rich in history, culture and cuisine. Today, the passions of art communities, wine growers and artisan food producers help complete this extraordinary off-shore escape.

Activities offered by the property
You’ll spend your days enjoying the beach, walking and exploring the property. There are excellent clifftop walks to nearby Cape Torrens Wilderness Protection areas.
The fishing is very good (some basic gear is supplied) with mullet, flathead and salmon trout making a showing in the bay.
Of course, you’ll also be watching for KI’s famous wildlife, which thrives around Kangaroo Beach. Look out for kangaroos, wallabies and koalas; with a little luck, you’ll also see Ospreys and White-bellied Sea Eagles. Dolphins and seals frequently visit, and if you take a torch to Little Kangaroo Beach, you’ll often see Fairy Penguins leaving nests for their nightly fishing.
Fishing charters, Island tours, specialist tours, diving, guided walking tours, 4WD Farm Tours and champagne sunset drinks can all be arranged for additional cost.

Nightly rate includes

At Kangaroo Beach Lodges, managers Sarah and Stuart Were can cater to you as much or as little as you wish. Some guests want to arrive, unpack, fill the kitchen with their own provisions and make themselves at home.
Some request their Lodge be pre-stocked with fresh local produce ahead of their arrival (owing to the Lodges’ remote location, this can add to the convenience, especially for those who are arriving late).
And others want their stay to be fully-catered: they request the services of an experienced chef who stocks the kitchen with local gourmet food and wine.
