SA – Island And Outback

SA – Island And Outback

In this 8 day/7 night itinerary The Tailor has incorporated the best of Southern Australian country life, offering outback adventure, refined country homesteads as well as a visit to two of our premier wine regions.

Outback destinations provide a personalised experience and even a chance to get involved in a working sheep station, completing the week with a relaxing stay in the famous Barossa Valley.

Itinerary

Days 1 – 3
Flinders Ranges

Stretching north from Port Augusta into the sun-seared wilderness of South Australia’s deserts, the Flinders Ranges is one of the country’s most impressive destinations. Nestled in the middle of the ranges, you will discover Angorichina Station, a working sheep station with 140 years of history, 64,000 hectares and a warm welcome for just six discerning guests.

Immerse yourself in the daily life of a working outback sheep station with the following experiences:

  • Meander through the virtual museum of 19th century outbuildings. During season you’ll see mustering and sheep-shearing in action.
  • Take a rugged 4WD tour, or guided walk of the ancient Flinders Ranges. On the property, you can also search for some of the oldest fossils on earth, treasures from the Ediacaran to Precambrian periods
  • Observe wildlife including emus, kangaroos, rare Yellow-footed Rock Wallabies and abundant birdlife
  • For additional cost you may like to take a scenic flight over the region and the amazing Wilpena Pound

Whilst in the Flinders Ranges, 3 nights accommodation has been included at Angorichina Station
At Angorichina Station, your hosts Ian and Di Fargher provide all personal tours and serve delicious home-cooked meals. Here really is a destination to experience genuine southern outback hospitality in a comfortable, relaxing Australian way.

Days 4 – 8
Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is famous for its abundant wildlife species and natural beauty. Covering almost 4500 sq km (a third of which is conservation land); the island is relatively free of feral species allowing animal and bird populations to thrive.
See koalas in millennia-old native forests, walk among sea lions on pristine white-sand beaches, dive historic wrecks to see the famous ‘leafy sea dragon’, watch Ospreys wheeling over rocky headlands…

Along with the scheduled activities included in the nightly tariff at Southern Ocean Lodge, a full day of private touring has been included with Kangaroo Island’s premier touring company, Exceptional Kangaroo Island.

Whilst on Kangaroo Island, 4 nights accommodation has been included at Southern Ocean Lodge
Southern Ocean Lodge is regarded as Australia’s finest luxury wilderness retreat.
The ground-breaking Lodge is built into a remote cliff-top on Kangaroo Island, a design born of peerless views, environmental ideology and air that’s freshly ionised by the pounding surf.

Notes

We recommend travel to these regions all year round however it can get quite hot in January and February.
