Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival at Hobart Airport you will be met and privately transferred to your accommodation. The Henry Jones Art Hotel is a fusion of history and modernity, art and design, indulgence and discovery. Australia’s first dedicated art hotel, The Henry Jones merges one of Tasmania’s most significant industrial heritage sites—H. Jones and Co. Pty. Ltd. IXL—with modern design and contemporary art to create a luxurious accommodation experience.

You will have the afternoon to spend at your leisure.

Day 2

After breakfast you will be met at your accommodation for a full days touring around the Mt Field National Park and Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.

Mount Field National Park is the oldest National Park in the state. Take a rainforest walk to Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls and the Tall Trees. This enchanting walk in Tasmania’s wilderness is accompanied by a delightful Tasmanian picnic lunch. In the afternoon visit Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to experience Tasmanian Devils, Wombats, Wallabies, Echidnas, Quolls and other Australian animals first hand. This dedicated team of wildlife carers provides an invaluable service to the research and protection of native wildlife in Tasmania. For every guest visiting the sanctuary with Premier Travel Tasmania we donate five dollars towards the Tasmanian Devil cancer research.

On conclusion of your tour you will be returned to your Hobart accommodation.

Day 3

This morning you will be collected from The Henry Jones by your Maria Island Walk guide, and taken to their city base to pack your backpacks and to meet the other walkers.

You will next be transferred to the historic coastal town of Triabunna, where a private catamaran will be waiting to take you across to the Maria Island through the sparkling waters of Mercury Passage. On arrival to the island you will set foot on a pristine, untouched beach, exactly as explorers did years earlier. It is here that you will stop to enjoy a beautiful lunch overlooking the crystal azure waters of Shoal Bay before taking a walk to the tranquil Casuarina Beach camp.

In the afternoon, explore the trail through the tall eucalypt forest down to the spectacular Haunted Bay. After a gourmet Tasmanian dinner take a stroll along the beach at sunset and reflect on the day with a glass of wine in hand.

Day 4

Wake up to the chattering of wattle birds and from the comfort of your bed, watch the morning shine through the trees, and after a delicious breakfast, it will be time to begin the second leg of your adventure. Journeying along five beautiful beaches, watch dolphins play in the surf and sea eagles soaring overhead as you walk past a blanket of exotic shells lining the water’s edge.

Walk from Reidle Bay across the rare land formation of the isthmus to Shoal Bay. Explore the convict cells at Point Lesueur and visit an ochre pit at Bloodstone Point – one of the original ochre sources for the Tasmanian Aborigines.

By late afternoon you will arrive at White Gums camp for a refreshing swim. And to conclude the perfect day, you will have the opportunity to relax with your fellow walkers, before enjoying a candlelit dinner showcasing the finest Tasmanian food and wine.

Day 5

Today your Tasmanian Walking Guides will take you inland to the heart of Maria Island to discover the rich greens of the grand forests. You’ll have the opportunity to wander through the world’s largest stand of giant Tasmanian blue gums and can choose to climb the peaks of Mt Maria or Bishop and Clerk should you so desire. It’s a 700 metre climb through rare “cloud” rain forests. It is worth climbing the extra few metres as the views are simply breathtaking.

That evening you will arrive at Tasmanian’s fascinating World Heritage listed settlement of Darlington where you’ll stay at the elegant colonial Bernacchi House and enjoy a final banquet with fine wine and great conversation.

Haunted Bay

Day 6

Your final day will begin with a delicious breakfast followed by a walk around the northern tip of Maria Island. Today’s walk takes you through a variety of spectacular woodlands and forests with rare endemic birds, wallabies and wombats on show. You will continue on to the dramatic sea cliffs of Fossil Bay and then head down to the remarkable fossils at Fossil Cliffs.

Arriving back at Darlington you will be able to enjoy a celebratory farewell lunch before boarding the boat to go back to Triabunna. On arrival back to the mainland you will be met for your private transfer to Saffire Freycinet.

Saffire Freycinet is a coastal sanctuary capturing the essence of Tasmania’s most sublime coastal region, the Freycinet Peninsula. Enjoy your last morning at Saffire Freycinet before your transfer back to Hobart Airport to connect with your scheduled flight to your selected destination. If time permits, you may like to extend your time spent in Australia.

This tour is designed for – Solo travellers/couples/small groups and families with children 12 years and over. The Maria Island Walk is not suited to children under this age. Should the itinerary be of interest and you are travelling with a young family please contact one of our Travel Designers as we can customise a journey to suit your exact travel needs.

Season considerations apply with this itinerary, as the Maria Island Walk operates from October to end of April, so we recommend speaking with your Travel designer should your travel dates be outside the timeframe.
