Stranraer Homestead is a 3500-acre property offering a unique insight into life on Kangaroo Island, one of Australia’s most famous wilderness destinations.
The property has been in the Wheaton family since 1911, now run by your hosts, Graham and Lyn Wheaton, who executed a glorious restoration of the homestead.
The farm still operates as a fully functional property, (producing prime lamb) but its many landscapes are never less than beautiful – including the two large lagoons, which support over 45 species of birds.
Stranraer Homestead’s speciality is country peace and tranquillity; its central location on the Island also offers convenient access to the island’s many natural attractions, charming villages and stunning beaches.
Relax in one of just four guest rooms, all with cosy fireplaces, and indulge in gourmet meals served in the elegant dining room. The parlour is the perfect place to end a relaxing day with a glass of your favourite drink.

Kangaroo Island is famous for its abundant wildlife species and natural beauty. Covering almost 4500 sq km (a third of which is conservation land), the island is relatively free of feral species allowing animal and bird populations to thrive.

Air access
Flights from Adelaide to Kingscote on Kangaroo Island take 30 minutes, with a short 30 minute drive to Stranraer Homestead.
Road access
Stranraer Homestead is located 30 minutes drive from Kingscote.
Activities
Guests are invited to explore the property, guided by Graham who is able to provide an insight into the local way of life. The Tailor is able to arrange additional touring of the island with premier tour operator, Exceptional Kangaroo Island.

Standard
Stranraer Homestead offers four rooms, each with moulded ceilings, high walls, an inviting fireplace and tasteful, elegant decor. Three rooms have queen-size beds and the other has two single beds.

Lyn and Graham provide an outstanding food experience produced in the Stranraer kitchen using the bounty provided by the farm and local growers.
Seasonality
Kangaroo Island is a destination for all seasons and Stranraer Homestead is available all year round.
