About

Visitors appreciate its restless creative energy as well as its distinct enclaves like Chinatown, the Greek Quarter and Carlton (Italian quarter), home to cultural flavours, specialities and charm. The nightlife is buzzy, intimate and cutting edge: wander through the historic laneways to find the latest hidden restaurants, music venues and bars, then spend the morning shopping amongst the glitz and glamour of the ‘Paris End’ of Collins Street.

The architecture – much of it historic – is imposing and the arts scene arguably the best in the country: the Gallery of Victoria is especially good and there’s always something interesting happening at Federation Square.

Melbourne is also known for its sporting passions and is home to several international events including the Australian Open Tennis and Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
