The Ghan Great Southern Rail

Great Southern Rail presents The Ghan, one of the world’s great rail journeys – an experience of luxury, discovery and romance that literally crosses the heart of the world’s largest island continent.

Guests board The Ghan in either Adelaide or Darwin to journey over three leisurely days, achieving a north-south journey from sea to shining sea via the red expanses of the outback.
Marvel at the spectacular Australian landscapes: from the lush South Australian Winelands, through the rich reds of the MacDonnell Ranges surrounding Alice Springs into the lush emeralds of the tropical north.
Enjoy the attractions of Adelaide and Darwin, with ‘Whistle Stop’ tours in Alice Springs (the desert city), and Katherine, home to remarkable Nitmiluk Gorge.

It’s a seemingly endless landscape of Martian redness, and to be able to enjoy it all from a private Platinum cabin — while taking high tea served to you by a personal butler — is a curious lesson in the persistence and ingenuity of humankind.
