Nestled upon the northern boundary of South Australia’s magnificent Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park is Gum Creek Station. Folded into the landscape with 50,000 acres of undisturbed country to its name, the lodge prides itself on its marvellous placement, providing panoramic and topographic views over a valley of river red gums and native pine trees.
The striking lodge has four ensuite bedrooms, fully-equipped kitchen, open-plan dining and lounge, with a rear courtyard boasting an open set stone fireplace to warm your evenings under a blanket of stars, complete with wood-fired pizza oven. The lodge offers absolute comfort all-year around and is powered by a hybrid solar/wind power system, combined with rainwater harvesting and recycling to be eco-friendly, and respect the beautiful and dynamic environment the lodge is nestled within.
Your stay at Gum Creek is fully catered including beverages by acclaimed Chef and member of the Gum Creek family, Lisa McIntosh. Lisa is the founder of on-site catering company Epicurean Tucker Box, which combines country hospitality with a diverse range of international cuisines with Australian influences to fuel your days of outback exploration.

Tours and activities will be chosen to suit your tastes but could include a visit to Brachina George to see the yellow footed rock wallabies, exploring Gum Creek National Park by 4WD, a hike including the Callitris pine forest synonymous with Flinders Ranges, a visit to Nilpena Station and the pristine Ediacaran fossil site discovered in the 1980s, a hike to St. Mary’s Peak at Wilpena Pound, a visit to the Prairie Hotel and the Blinman mine or a visit to Angorichina Station to spend time with Di and Ian Fargher where six generations of the Fargher family have called this place home.
There is no set itinerary during your time at Gum Creek—the diverse range of activities on offer means that each experience is individually tailored to your own interests. Your guide/s are on hand to help construct a personalised, memorable, and expertly-hosted trip in the magnificent Ikara-Flinders Ranges.
Immense and splendid, this region is ripe with nature exploration, either via 4WD or by foot for a slower-paced and more intimate experience. Several major natural attractions are in the area, including the region’s famed Brachina Gorge, with a 20-kilometre trail taking you through 130 million years of earth history. Just slightly north, visit internationally significant Nilpena Station, an Ediacaran fossil site with some of the Earth’s oldest fossilised animals, over 550 million years old. Hike the incomparable heights of St. Mary Peak/Ngarri Mudlanha Hike, the highest mountain of the Ranges, and enjoy panoramic views of Wilpena Pound’s natural amphitheatre. Travel through the Callitris pine forest, and hike bushtrails while enjoying plentiful photo opportunities. There's plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature in all its splendour, relax at a picture-perfect creek bed spot for a picnic, or climb a scenic hill to enjoy a sundowner upon.
Traverse the rugged landscape and cover immense terrain via 4WD touring with your guide/s. From the comfort of your 4WD, take tours through working sheep properties, nature reserves, and scenic tracks through the landscape.
Discover the history and lifestyle of the region's pastoralists at outback stations, and participate with their lifestyle to get a hands-on experience learning about wool, pioneering history, and everyday lives.
This outback region showcases some of the most dynamic and varied animal and birdlife in Australia. Animal lovers will be able to observe wildlife in their natural habitat, including the poster marsupial of the region: the elusive and rare yellow footed rock wallaby, alongside plentiful birdlife. For the scientific-minded, you may embark on a conservation day to learn more about the region’s remarkable ecology and how humans can assist in maintaining the beautiful space. For those more interested in human history, you may take a visit to the Prairie Hotel and sample their iconic 'feral food' menu—focused on provenance and sustainability, you may try smoked kangaroo, emu pâté and camel sausage for a delicious and memorable outback dining experience, washed down with a local beverage, before exploring the region's mining history at Blinman Mine. There's also time for simple leisure, like reading a book at the lodge.
