There’s something very special about the South Australia’s beautiful Barossa Valley. You can feel it in the breathtaking landscape, the people, the food and the wine. It’s a beautiful region, with villages, vineyards and farms dotting a patchwork vista – and it’s right in our very own backyard.
We invite you to experience with us the ‘Barossa – Behind the Vines’ as you journey on the less travelled roads into the real Barossa Valley wine region.
Commencing at 8.30am sharp, your friendly guide will meet you at your city accommodation. For all local South Australian guests, a pickup service will run from the Intercontinental Adelaide, located on North Terrace.
Your first stop today will be for a fresh cup of coffee and a short-guided walk at the beautiful township of Stirling, located in the heart of the Adelaide Hills. The picturesque tree-lined main street and clear crisp air will have you feeling alive and ready to experience more of this incredible area.
From Stirling, your guide will travel the picturesque Onkaparinga Valley as it gently rises through the hamlets of Oakbank, Woodside, Mt Torrens, Birdwood, Mt Pleasant and Springton where you will be taken to visit Herbigs Tree. With a story that is almost unbelievable, you’ll be taken through the history of this ancient Redgum tree which was once home to a German immigrant family after settlement in Australia from 1845.
A short drive and you arrive at the breathtaking Eden Valley Lookout – a 360-degree view from the top of four beautiful valleys. At this hilltop, you will experience the same stunning sights that would have enchanted the indigenous Peremangk people thousands of years before European settlement. Its beauty is truly captivating.
Before stopping for lunch you’ll get to experience the Seppelt Family Mausoleum – a very grand memorial dedicated to the many generations of this pioneering family in the Barossa Region.
A little further along the road finds us at Seppeltsfield winery and the renowned Fino Restaurant where you will be personally treated to an exquisite a-la-carte lunch featuring local produce and a glass of wine from their impressive wine list.
From lunch, you’ll be free to meander to the cellar door for some additional tastings, and an exclusive ‘Taste Your Birth Year’ wine tasting. You’ll also get to experience the many fascinating collections of artisans that make up The Jam Factory, and simply enjoy the stunning gardens of the winery.
Winning 2015 James Halliday Winery of the Year, Hentley Farm Estate Winery encapsulates what this fine wine region is all about. Be absorbed by the spectacular architecture and family history of what was once a sheep shearing shed, barn and stables.
Alternatively, for those more interested in the natural environment and discovering more unique features of the Barossa can visit the Whispering Wall dam at the Barossa Reservoir. This dam is a man-made phenomenon where a whisper at one end can be heard over 120 metres away at the other end. From here you will also have the opportunity to visit the Humbug Scrub wher your guide will show you the resilience of the Australian bush as it recovers from a disastrous bushfire that occurred in 2015.
You then begin your descent through the Adelaide Hills and Foothills as you make your way back to the city, with the tour concluding with a drop off back at your accommodation at approximately 5.30pm.
