Sitting just off mainland Tasmania, Bruny Island is a peaceful oasis where time seems to stand still. Home to relatively untouched rugged landscapes, beautiful white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and an abundance of local wildlife, this day tour is sure to impress.
Your exclusive private day tour commences at 8:30am after collection at your Hobart CBD accommodation and travels south from Hobart, to the seaside village of Kettering. Recently made world famous for the filming of The Kettering Incident, Kettering is the gateway to Bruny Island. Here you will board a small vehicular ferry for a short trip across the D’Entrecasteaux channel, before arriving on the island. This morning provides an opportunity to stop at the Truganini Lookout with 360 degree views of “The Neck”, a narrow strip of sand that joins north and south.
From here, make your way to the southern township of Adventure Bay, rich in history and the landing place of early explorers, including Captain William Bligh, Captain James Cook and Matthew Flinders. Take a stroll through the South Bruny National Park, home to the famous Fluted Cape and much of the local wildlife, including curious White Wallabies.
After discovering some of the local wildlife, it is a short drive to the western side of the island for a relaxing gourmet lunch, at a small family owned and operated vineyard/winery. Indulge in a 2 course lunch with a selection of local produce that the area is renowned for, such as freshly shucked oysters, delicious berries, hot smoked salmon, mouthwatering lamb and award-winning cheese, handmade on Bruny Island. To top off your lunch, you will leave with a complimentary bottle of wine.
In the afternoon, it is time to return to Hobart on your scenic flight. Taking off, you will have the chance to see Bruny Island from the air and get a glimpse of Storm Bay and Tasman Island, before flying up the Derwent River. See the Tasman Bridge and city sites before landing at Cambridge airport. From here you will be returned to your Hobart accommodation by private transfer, concluding your tour around 5:00pm.
