Kangaroo Island is a favourite location for travellers to Australia, whether it be for the wildlife, nature or abundance of local produce. Travelling in style from start to finish, your day has been hand crafted from over 30 years of local know-how by one of Australia’s most highly awarded tour operators.
This tour begins at 9:00am with an early departure from the Adelaide General Aviation Airport lounge where your pilot will personally meet and escort you to your private aircraft.
After boarding your private aircraft, you will depart on the short scenic flight from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island – located just off South Australia’s rugged and awe-inspiring coast. This scenic 30-minute flight allows you to experience the coastal vistas of both Adelaide and Kangaroo Island.
On arrival to Kangaroo Island you will be greeted by your private guide, a true K.I. local, for a day of touring. After morning tea, your tour will focus on seeing as much of the unique wildlife as possible. Flinders Chase National Park is home to a great deal of endemic wildlife including kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, possums, echidnas, goannas, platypus and a plethora of birds including the rare Cape Barren Geese. The national park also offers spectacular coastline of the wild Southern Ocean and is the home to inspiring geological features and heritage sites.
Once inside the park you will travel to Cape du Couedic which is situated at the south-western point of Kangaroo Island and the journey allows you to witness dramatic dunes with a complex fire history along with varied range of flora and habitats. The region has a very interesting history and the road you will travel on follows the original horse trail between the ranger station and the lighthouse settlement at Cape du Couedic.
Once you arrive at Cape du Couedic you will visit a fur seal colony which has a population of over 50,000 however in the early 1800’s the colony was decimated by sealers thankfully now the seals are fully protected. The fur seals can be viewed at rest on the rocks or swimming in the surf. Whilst visiting the seals you will also witness spectacular Admirals Arch – an impressive natural formation created by the relentless pounding of the mighty Southern Ocean.
A definite highlight of the tour will be a visit to Remarkable Rocks, a huge cluster of weathered and sculptured granite boulders have been carved by relentless winds, rain and salt from the ocean and are perched on a large granite dome that drops almost vertically 75 metres to the sea.
Good wines and local produce features highly in the picnic lunch which you can enjoy on clifftop or in the bush (depending on weather and logisitics) before making a visit to “Grassdale” in the heart of Kelly Hill Conservation Park, the home of the pioneering Edwards Family and now a great place for kangaroo observation.
Depending upon the time of year and the wildlife movements the afternoon will include a visit to either “Grassdale” in the Kelly Hill Conservation Park, the isolated pools of the Rocky River or a rugged South Coast cove.
The remainder of the day will be spent exploring more of the highlights of the island before you will be returned to Kingscote airport on conclusion of your tour, ready for your private flight back to Adelaide airport. Arrival time back into Adelaide will be at approximately 6:00pm.
