Itinerary

DAY 1

Upon arrival at Launceston Airport you will be met by your private Pepper Bush Adventures guide to begin your Tasmania journey. This morning you will make your way to Trowunna Wildlife Park for a private tour.

Cuddle a wombat, walk amongst the kangaroos and see the Tasmanian devils being fed on a visit to Mole Creek’s Trowunna Wildlife Park. Observe and learn about Tasmania’s unique and wonderful wildlife; Trowunna is the nature-lover’s wildlife park. Like the animals themselves, visitors feel relaxed and at peace amongst the tall timber and grassy clearings which provide a natural habitat for a wide range of Tasmanian native species. Trowunna Wildlife Park is a wildlife sanctuary and many of the animals and birds which roam freely everywhere have declined to leave after rescue and rehabilitation, or have simply invited themselves in. Their contentment is obvious, as friendly kangaroos, including mothers with joeys peeking out of their pouches, get up close and personal with visitors.

Later in the afternoon travel to Narawntapu National Park, a peaceful coastal refuge, with inlets, small islands, wetlands, sand dunes, lagoons and an amazing variety of plants and animals. The park boasts a rich array of animals that come out in the evening to graze on the grasslands, including Forester kangaroos, Bennett’s wallabies and wombats. Many species of birds gather in the park, including honeyeaters, rosellas, black cockatoos and all manner of twittering robins. Water birds flourish on the shores and lagoons at Spring Lawn and can be easily observed from a bird hide.

After an adventurous first day filled with exciting wildlife encounters, you will be accommodated at Peppers Seaport Hotel, just a five-minute walk from Launceston town centre. Built in the shape of a ship on the site of an old dry dock, Peppers Seaport Hotel exudes style and contemporary design, with a distinct nautical feel.

This morning you will have the opportunity to hike Ben Lomond to experience its awesome dolerite peaks and alpine vegetation with amazing panoramic photo opportunities and with the option to walk to the second highest point in Tasmania (A moderate fitness level is required).

Next, if you’re feeling really adventurous, you will have the chance to mountain bike the Ben Lomond descent. Your guide will take you on the ultimate mountain bike descent in Tasmania, with a total drop of 1050 vertical metres. Starting in the alpine Ski Village at 1450m, this awesome trip takes you down the spectacular Jacobs Ladder road and through the eucalypt forests to the finishing point on the Blessington Road at 400m.

Later today, regarded as one of Australia’s best nature experiences, discover the wildlife and tastes of Tasmania on the Quoll Patrol afternoon/evening tour. Enjoy a gourmet campfire dinner with a wonderful after dark wildlife show which focuses on the antics of the eastern quoll in its natural habitat.

The bush tucker dinner – on private acreage, is a 4 course campfire Tasmanian bush tucker affair consisting of Tasmanian cheese platter with Tasmanian smoked chicken, salmon and wallaby and followed by wallaby mountain burgers and native spiced salmon.

Settle back and relax with a Tassie beer or wine and watch the sun set to experience one of the best after dark shows on offer. Be delightedly surprised with the after dark wildlife show – a memorable nocturnal wildlife experience with some of Tasmania’s unique and endearing wildlife species: Eastern quolls, pademelons and Bennett’s wallabies, wombats and brush tail possums all within reach. Owls, bandicoots and tawny frogmouths are some of the other local residents.
