Main Information
A family-owned and operated business run by owner and skipper Pieter van de Woude since 1998, Tasmanian Boat Charters is built upon a love for Tasmania’s rugged coastal wilderness. Their custom-built vessel Odalisque and carefully-constructed itineraries are designed to immerse like-minded explorers into the remote and pristine South and South-West coastlines of Australia’s mysterious and beautiful southern island.
Offering private day and overnight cruises in a range of waters and regions, guests of Tasmanian Boat Charters will traverse the stunning South and South-West of Tasmania in safety and comfort.
Launched in 2014, the current Odalisque is a 20m custom-built vessel designed to cruise Tasmania’s coastline. Odalisque offers a boutique floating hotel experience perfectly combining adventure and comfort for a maximum of 10 overnight guests, or up to 40 guests for day cruises.
Odalisque offers three spacious, private cabins for overnight charters, each including a double and a single bed. Two deluxe cabins, ‘The Maria’ and ‘The Clyde’ come with their own private ensuite bathroom, while the standard cabin ‘The Arthur’ comes with a private external bathroom. For private charters which require additional space, there is also additional sleeping space ‘The Davey’, which has a curtain that can be drawn for privacy.
Designed to immerse guests into the open seas, Odalisque offers a range of shared areas, including a comfortable entertaining and dining area boasting panoramic views, a modern galley where your chef will prepare delicious meals created with local produce and paired with premium local beverages, as well as three spacious outside decks inviting guests to enjoy sightseeing, photography, or sunset barbecues.
Odalisque is supported with the service of two tenders: a 14ft aluminium dinghy, and a jet engine RIB with comfortable lounge seating. Each of these tenders are thoughtfully chosen to best manoeuvre the weather conditions of Tasmanian waters, whether it’s exploring hidden sea caves or cruising up the Old River and Davey Rivers to get further into the rugged landscapes.
Between mid-January and early May, Odalisque travels to and is based in Port Davey in the South-West Wilderness of Tasmania. Outside of these times, Odalisque is moored in Hobart for Private Harbour Cruises and custom-made charters.
Solo Travellers, Couples, Small Groups, Functions & Events
Tasmanian Boat Charters offer a range of pre-designed itineraries, including a range of day charters and overnight charters. Expert local guides are available on all overnight cruises to share their knowledge and help develop and deepen your understanding of each region you experience. Port Davey Expedition Cruise
Go remote on an all-inclusive guided expedition through the South-West Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Available on four- or seven-day options, guests will traverse some of the world’s least-explored expanses through landscapes of glacial fjords, quartzite peaks, and ancient Huon pine, while enjoying exceptional service and food with comfortable touches for a maximum of 3 couples, or 10 guests on a private charter.
Beginning with a flight from Hobart to Melaleuca, you’ll be taken by tender through the glassy waters of the Port Davey inlet to Odalisque. Over four days, you’ll be accompanied by your skipper, your local chef sourced from Hobart’s finest restaurants, and your expert guides who will escort you out into the region. Daily shore excursions that adapt to your interests and needs will lead you out into the wilderness to explore winding waterways by jetboat, hike to breathtaking vantage points, birdwatch in buttongrass moorlands, picnic on remote and pristine beaches, and bask in the remarkable landscapes of sea caves, rock arches, rocky islets, and other sights that few people will experience.
Hobart Private Cruise
Accessible for a range of corporate functions and personal celebrations, Odalisque can cater for up to 40 people to see Hobart from a different angle along the Derwent River, soaking up the picturesque sights of convict-era architecture, historic wharf, and kunanyi / Mount Wellington as you enjoy a long lunch or sunset drinks.
Available for as short as a three-hour cruise to an 8-hour full day, Odalisque is designed to maximise your time upon the water. With a range of convenient Hobart locations for pickup, fully licensed bar stocked with stellar Tasmanian wines, local beers and boutique ciders, and a fully-equipped kitchen perfect for a private chef to prepare simple and hearty canapés to a several-course degustation, a day trip on Odalisque is a spectacular way to celebrate in style.
Other Cruises
Odalisque offers single day Bruny Island Discovery Cruises, a single day Port Davey charter and photography tour, and several other itineraries in the South and South-West regions of Tasmania. Customised charter options are also available upon request.
Odalisque can be chartered all year-round, while seasonality depends on your destination. The Port Davey Expedition Cruise is only available from mid-Jan to early May. Please contact us for all enquiries.
Bringing specific clothing to maximise your comfort is recommended for travel at any time of year. South Tasmania has dynamic and varied weather, which is one of the many attractions of this unique World Heritage Wilderness Area. Rain and fluctuating cool temperatures are common all year around, making wet weather clothing and warm layering important.
Prices depend on charter type, inclusions and season. Please contact us for further details or to make an enquiry.
