Ningaloo Reef

Ningaloo reef has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of Australia’s best ocean paradises

One of the world’s largest fringing reef systems

Ningaloo Reef is one of Australia’s incredible natural phenomena and has taken its place amongst the world-heritage list. It is one of the world’s longest coral reefs and is particularly unique in that it can be reached by simply stepping off the beach and into the ocean. Located near the township of Exmouth, Ningaloo Reef is 300 kilometres of pure, unspoiled coastal paradise. The reef is alive with aquatic plant and marine life, with turtles, tropical fish, manta rays, humpback whales and the ever-elusive whale shark’s keeping constant companions to the reef.

In 1987 Ningaloo Reef was declared a marine park to protect the diversity of inhabitants on the reef, and to preserve the reef for generations to come to enjoy. This region is an incredibly special region, with the pure ocean air and beautiful natural scenery a welcome contrast to the bright lights of Australia’s major cities.

To extend your time at the reef and allow yourself ample opportunity to enjoy this magnificent destination, include a stay at the wonderful Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef.

  • Discover Ningaloo Reef with a snorkel or diving experience with one of the region’s best tour operators.
  • Stay at an exclusive luxury safari style camp, located just metres from Ningaloo Reef. Simply step off the beach and into an aquatic paradise.
  • For those seeking real adventure, there are new opportunities for travellers to swim with not only the Whale Sharks, but Humpback Whales too.

Ningaloo Reef experiences up to 320 days of luxurious sunshine per year, making it the perfect all-year-round holiday destination.

Temperatures average between 32 – 37°C (89.6 – 98.6°F) between the months of September to May which are the traditional autumn, spring and summer months around the rest of the country.

From June to August the temperatures see a minor decrease, with the average daily temperature dropping to 25°C (77°F).

What do our experts say about Ningaloo Reef?

"A hidden gem, I love Ningaloo Reef for snorkelling and its marine diversity is staggering. However, the most fun of all is spotting sharks, rays, whales, turtles and more on a scenic micro-light flight."
